Abstract:

The theoretical emphasis in CALL has moved strongly away from instructional  programs towards collaborative approaches. However, research in subject areas other than language learning has generally found little evidence for the effectiveness of these approaches. Recent investigations are now calling into question the most widely heralded collaborative program, Logo. There is an urgent need for CALL research to assess the viability of the various approaches. In present circumstances, the emphasis on collaborative programs leaves CALL in a highly vulnerable position.
