Abstract:

In this paper we review the concept of social network and its usefulness for speech analysis. The study of networks is a very useful tool for the approach to vernacular variation within speech communities. Networks are not disruptive with the relations previously established among individuals. Thus, it proves to be an essential method for the study of mutual influences among participants in communicative events. By means of particular investigations, we definitely settle that the processes of variation, influence and rejection among speakers can be clearly explained with the help of social network approach.
