Abstract:

Lawrance and Welsh provide a detailed study of the copyright 'loophole' which allowed live 'bootleg' recordings to be commercially produced and retailed in Australia in the early 1990s. Their study illustrates the complexity of music copyright issues in contemporary media culture and the manner in which major international players - and most particularly the USA - influence national legislation.
