Threads /Uncommon People is a new history of the bands, artists and musicians that have made Sheffield one of the most vibrant music scenes in the UK from the 1970s until the present day.

Through updated dialogues, the authors explore the post-punk sound of the ‘steel city’, its DNA, its instigators and sonic legacy that has inspired future generations. The book includes a discussion of the various line-up changes and original/pivotal members of key Sheffield bands, including The Human League, Pulp, Moloko, Arctic Monkeys, Def Leppard, Moloko and ABC. It includes contributions from background influencers (sound engineers/producers, former band members, filmmakers, managers etc.) and those who helped shape the sound Sheffield's music scene. Amongst these threads the authors also look at key venues, studios and events that have had an impact on the history of Sheffield music. In addition to fresh interviews from people such as Martyn Ware (Human League / Heaven 17), Phil Oakey (The Human League), Dave Taylor (FON studios / Chakk manager), Ruth Joy (Krush), Róisín Murphy & Mark Brydon (Moloko), Roger Quail (My Life in the Mosh of Ghosts), Winston Hazel (Forgemasters), Dean Honer (The All Seeing Eye / I Monster / Eccentronic Research Council), Jon McClure (Reverend and the Makers), Oliver Sykes (Bring Me The Horizon) and many others, the book offers some previously unseen photographs, posters and other publicity materials.
