Myia was remembered as one of the daughters of Theano and Pythagoras. She married Milo of Croton, a famous athlete who was also a Pythagorean. The earliest reference we have to her comes in a fragment of Timaeus written in the first quarter of the third century BC4  and it is possible that his representation (or even invention) of Pythagoras’ daughter as an ideal Pythagorean woman led to the creation of pseudonymous work in her name.
