Julia Balbilla is another poet we know only from four poems inscribed on the (misnamed) colossal statue of Memnon near Thebes in Egypt. She accompanied the Roman emperor Hadrian and his wife Sabina to this tourist attraction in AD 130, celebrating the visit in verses which she had inscribed on the statue itself.
