Chapter: Dark Shades of Power. The Crow in Hindu and Tantric Religious Traditions

DOI: 10.1558/equinox.21398

Blurb:

This chapter discusses the crow in the religious traditions which dominate its perception in South Asia, namely Hinduism in general and Tantrism in particular (Gupta, Hoens and Goudriaan 1979: 5–12). As details of the crows’ representations and perceptions in both systems tend to overlap, the chapter first aims at singling out characteristic mythological, iconographical and ritual representations of the crow in each tradition.
