In a highly digitized society, as the present one, the use of technology is available to all and is gradually permeating the education sector. In this continuous development of digital innovation, three-dimensional virtual worlds appear to offer excellent opportunities to enrich foreign language teaching through play, action and interaction beyond the walls of the classroom. In this chapter we propose to unravel those aspects that make virtual worlds a motivating environment, low in anxiety and rich in learning opportunities, and we offer pedagogical guidelines for their integration in the curriculum of foreign languages.
