The cognitive science of religion has made an impact on the academic study of religion. Even though there has been a lot of criticism and resistance against this new approach, this is no different than what other new approaches have been subjected to in the history of our field. Constructive criticism, however, from practitioners as well as others, is very much needed if the CSR is to become a normal member of the discipline. In this article, I will examine how religion is conceived of in the CSR by one of its pioneers.
