Chapter: 18. Religious Studies in Brazil: An Area (Still) under Construction

DOI: 10.1558/equinox.28105

Blurb:

Studies of religion in Brazilian academia already have over a century, considering the pioneering contributions of Nina Rodrigues. However, the recognition of the science of religion as a singular area, with the object, method and specific theories is relatively recent and is now experiencing an important moment for its consolidation. This chapter seeks to understand the trajectory of the construction of our discipline, especially with regard to its fusions and confusions with theology and other humanities.
