Blurb:

This chapter surveys a portion of the history of studying religion, and introduces some
of the complex issues that scholars of religion wrestle with. Scholars of religion disagree
on so many things, substantial and seemingly insubstantial, but the one feature that permeates all of their work despite those differences is that the study of religion differs from beingreligious. It is not that they are incompatible. They’re just different.
