Abstract:

Hospices are spiritual places. The need to be sensitive to the spiritual is embraced by a wide spectrum of professionals. This article is an attempt to map the territory of the provision of spiritual care. It introduces two spiritual care frameworks then offers a brief over view of some of the key issues within medicine, nursing, occupational therapy and social work as they embrace spiritual care in their caring role. This invites readers to consider the interface between chaplains and the rest the multidisciplinary team as the team collectively care for the spirit and make a compassionate response. This article is based on a paper originally submitted to the SJHC 10 th anniversary conference in Crieff, March 2007.
