Abstract:
‘Naturtheater’ is a form of popular outdoor theatre, performed in small towns and villages in southern Germany. The plays are performed by the local population after being written, or transposed into dialect, by local dramatists. The scale of active participation, and the size of the audiences, have made ‘Naturtheater’ a major cultural phenomenon in Germany during the twentieth century.
