Abstract:

Pioneering mainframe systems like PLATO brought CALL through infancy and childhood, but the Apple II defined the field's adolescence. Adolescence is a time of exploration, a time of energy and exuberance, a time when old ways are discarded, a time when new identities are born and born again. As the child is father of the man, adolescence presages maturity, and it was the Apple II that pioneered the present and future course of CALI. Certainly, it shaped my own growth and development as a researcher.
