Abstract:

Data from a survey of nearly 34,000 13–15 year-olds were analysed to examine

the social significance of self-identified religious affiliation (belonging) unaccompanied

by faith in God (believing). The data support the social significance of‘belonging without believing’. This signi

ficance is discussed in light of the concept

of implicit religion.
