The Encyclopedia of Film Music and Sound will be the first project of its kind to cover all facets of sound associated with film – stretching from film’s very beginnings in the 1890s through the next 120 years of its existence. The Encyclopedia will include topics ranging from film genre to technical processes, functionality to personnel and much more. The second volume of The Encyclopedia will take an international approach and consider key developments in soundtracks around the world. These topics reflect the changing nature of film music and sound industries and acknowledge the important contribution that sound and music make to film. Executive Editor Mark Evans along with an internationally recognised group of Advisory Editors will provide not only a framework for analysis of music and sound, but the vital depth and background information necessary to understanding this rich and diverse area of study. As the first comprehensive reference collection devoted to film music and sound, it will be an indispensable resource for researchers, students, academics, practitioners, and all those drawn to the sonic within film.
The work will consist of 2 volumes and be published simultaneously in hardback print edition and online.
