Blurb:

Mark Murphy was born in 1932 in upstate New York. The Murphys were a middle-class family of English and Northern-Irish Protestant stock. His father was a singer and his mother a jazz fan. Painfully shy as a child, Murphy discovered his own love for jazz at the age of 14, particularly the singing of Peggy Lee and Nat King Cole. After studying at Syracuse University, he was spotted singing in a local club by Sammy Davis Jr., who encouraged him.
