Book: Using Video to Support Teacher Reflection and Development

Chapter: Looking at Learners

DOI: 10.1558/equinox.35794

Blurb:

This chapter engages educators at all stages (Preservice, Inservice, Trainers) in using video as a material to explore English language learner behaviours and utterances. These activities can be used to begin introducing descriptive observation skills and can draw attention to learner talk, grammar use, pragmatics, and more. Beginning with learners decreases teacher anxiety about using video and makes it easier to begin suspending judgmental observation. Where to access such video materials from open sources on the web and how to curate it at the local level are also be addressed.
