Denise Cush was at Lancaster University while Ninian Smart (1927–2001) and Eric Sharpe (1933–2000) were there, both major scholars in the Phenomenology of Religion who also changed the way Religious Education was taught in schools in England. Cush had also switched from Theology to Religious Studies and, taking on board many of Ninian Smart’s ideas, went on to become influential in Religious Education.
