DOI: 10.1558/equinox.39158

This chapter, “Justice as Shari’a’s Central Purpose,” begins with a case study of the blasphemy laws in Pakistan and mostly highlights the recent emphasis in Islamic legal theory on the objectives of Shari’a. It then presents the work of three influential reformist scholars: Jamal al-Banna, Mohammed Hashim Kamali, and Tariq Ramadan.
