Book: Interactions of Vowel Quality and Prosody in East Slavic

Chapter: Extreme Reduction

DOI: 10.1558/equinox.43526

Blurb:

The chapter develops an analysis of vowel reduction in unstressed positions not immediately
preceding stressed syllables and hence not affected by the presence of tone. The analysis is
based on the model of prominence reduction developed by Crosswhite (2001), and is
formalized in terms of the markedness constraints regulating sonority of prosodic heads and
non-heads proposed by de Lacy (2006).
