‘Unconscious’ in Jung’s account of archetypes is an unsatisfactory term because it entrenches a dichotomy (against the ‘conscious’) for a quality we experience incrementally, and ‘collective’ also unnecessarily dichotomizes ‘personal’ experience from genetically shared experience.
