Phenomenology is one of philosophy’s interpretative keys. But why choose phenomenology for a study of the Qur’an, rather than – for example – idealism or existentialism? The reason is that phenomenology is an instrument more useful than others in allowing a philosophical interpretation of the Qur’an. Phenomenology, through reduction, intentionality and eidetic intuition, has the advantage of placing the question of truth within parentheses.
