Nelson Glueck’s Explorations in Eastern Palestine were a watershed in Near Eastern archaeology and for a long time they were the main source of information for the archaeology of Jordan. However, over time they have been subjected to an increasing amount of critique, and are sometimes considered outdated. This paper provides a comparison of Glueck’s surveys with published material that is available now, and shows that, firstly, for a large part of Jordan Glueck’s results are still the only information that we have, and secondly, much of the critique directed at Glueck’s surveys and the way he described the sites which he visited, is based on misidentifications. Therefore, Glueck’s results are still vital for present scholarship.
