In Chapter 10, we investigate the English translation of proper nouns in ancient Chinese poems. We first define common noun in simple terms. Then we briefly analyze four Chinese poems. Finally, we classify, analyze, and discuss the English translations of proper nouns. Based on our analysis, we suggest the following four possibilities in the translation of proper nouns: (i) proper nouns in the original being translated as equivalent proper nouns into English, (ii) proper nouns in the original being translated as common nouns into English, (iii) proper nouns in the original being translated as inequivalent proper nouns, and (iv) proper nouns in the original not being translated.
